INTRODUCTION

The virus population present on the globe has a more or less constant base activity over time. However, at certain moments and due to multiple factors, one of these species suddenly becomes more active and causes an epidemic process. In such situations, and with special emphasis on today’s world, where the possibilities in terms of communication are so many and within reach of everyone, the focus of public attention is on the pathogen with an unusual growth and often forgets those other threats that are still there, in some cases more dangerous than the one that has attracted public attention, but continues to behave in the usual way.

In this article we are going to review those viral species that are most harmful and have the greatest impact on the current panorama. At certain times, some of these viruses have caused a pandemic and have managed to attract public attention. But even if this is not the case, it is important not to forget their existence and incidence on the world population.
