As soon as the women’s peloton hit the bottom of the Muur van Geraardsbergen at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, onto the cobbles that form the base of the climb, Annemiek van Vleuten moved to the front of the almost 20-rider group at the head of the race and accelerated. Initially, Boels Dolmans’ Jip van den Bos jumped onto her wheel, but within
