AFTER THINKING for a moment about Leinster’s upcoming Heineken Champions Cup quarter-final with their old pals Saracens, Tadhg Furlong starts talking about Michael Jordan and The Last Dance, the acclaimed documentary about the Chicago Bulls and their pursuit of a sixth NBA title in eight seasons in 1997.

As a team, the Bulls were breaking up and they all knew it. This was, well, their last dance, their final opportunity to reach the glory of six championships.

“It’s not the same but it’s similar,” says Furlong. “Saracens have lost a few lads because of the relegation thing, but they’ve still got a hell of a team and I can only imagine their motivation. Europe is their last chance to win a big trophy for a while. It’ll be a few years before they get another crack at a Champions Cup or a Premiership title. That makes them even more dangerous, that knowledge that life will be different for a while
