As we all know, Volkswagen’s air-cooled Transporter was by far the world’s most successful light commercial, with around 5.5 million sold in its first 30 years. Its success as a load and passenger carrier was actually surpassed by its popularity as a motor caravan base, becoming No 1 with constructors across Europe. But only one European-built VW motor caravan has ever won a share of the British market – that Van being the Westfalia Continental.
