What to plant for The late, late show
FILLED with late flowers, russet leaf tints and fruits, our gardens tend to look lovely all by themselves during September and October. There’s plenty to do out there and most gardeners enjoy autumn tasks such as gathering leaves, mulching beds and tidying the lines of the garden, ready to show off its structure and evergreens. Yet there is a sense of ‘winter is coming’, and after the pumpkins have been gathered in, frost has blackened dahlias and the last flame-coloured leaves drift earthwards, November can be a grim month.
There is a way to keep the winter blues at bay, however. By adding the right plants, we can create a patch of jewel-like blooms or colourful fruits that will keep the show going and
