A rise in hate crimes MURDERED FOR BEING TRANSGENDER

In just the first seven months of 2020, more transgender people have been murdered than were killed in all of 2019 – a shocking uptick that the American Medical Association calls a “rising epidemic of violence”.

There have been at least 28 transgender homicides (there were 26 last year) since January, based on data from the National Centre for Transgender Equality, and experts say more deaths may go untallied because police and family members don’t accurately report the victim’s gender. More than 90 per cent of victims are Black trans women, targeted not only for their gender identity but for the colour of their skin.
