Our 20-year LOVE STORY

Mary Donaldson was 28 years old when she came across a tarot card reader at a local flea market. The fortune teller began turning over the cards and told the Tasmanian advertising executive that she would leave her current job and meet a man from abroad, become famous and move to Europe.

“I left there and thought, ‘Well yes, that was a lot of fun, but nothing more,’” she would later tell biographer Jens Andersen. “I’ve always been interested in the spiritual – in mystery and fate.”

She would seal her fairytale fate months later when she struck up a conversation with a man named Fred, who was relaxing with the Danish sailing team at Sydney’s Slip Inn during the 2000 Olympics.

“I didn’t know. “It wasn’t the fireworks in the sky or anything like that, but there was a sense of excitement.”
