Fat minimalism
With minimalist technical means to millions of Spotify clicks. The New York-based producer Baauer, whose real name is Harry Bauer Rodrigues, made it into countless playlists by DJs and streaming providers with his hip-hop and trap influenced debut „AA“. He makes great strides with his current album „Planet‘s Mad“: a fat record between big beat, dance and electronica, which makes the speakers shake and is accompanied by a film on album length. But the man behind it is amazingly humble and creates his tremendous art with the simplest of means. We talked to him via Facetime about his creative process.
Beat/ The most obvious question first: How are you? How has the corona crisis affected you?
Harry/ No. It didn’t. Everything was pretty much done by the time the crisis started. It felt weird with the project, but Corona had no influence on the album.
Beat/ You released “Planet’s Mad” together with a science fiction film on your website. How did the idea come about?
Harry/ I wanted to create a whole world with the album. It should be more than just a collection of tracks, but a project that tells a story. The films should complement music. And it was a lot of fun to do that.
