Tips on best scope mounts

RIFLES

Q Could you recommend a good set of scope mounts for my Anschütz .22 rimfire, please?

A Choosing the correct mounts to securely fit a scope to your rifle is essential, but you also have to think about the height and diameter of the scope mounts, too.

Your rifle will have an 11mm dovetail rail cut into the top of the action. Depending on the diameter of your barrel, you can choose any 11mm mounts of a height that suits you and which do not touch the barrel when the scope is fitted. Also, the diameter of the scope mounts — either 1in or 30mm — to match your scope tube diameter will determine the correct height.

You can use mounts that have a separate clamping dovetail part to the mount via Allen screws or coin-tightening fasteners, but some makes can tilt the scope, which is not good.
