The Staffordshire Hoard is back in the news. The greatest find from the early English period since the Sutton Hoo ship burial, this treasure trove of almost 4,600 fragments of metalwork, gold, silver and precious stones was found by a metal detectorist in 2009 by the A5 near Lichfield.
