South Africa requires an economic recovery plan beyond the Covid-19 pandemic. Policy analysts, economists, business and labour say government needs to come up with a strategy to unlock the country’s productivity potential for improved competitiveness and sustainable economic growth.
In his oral reply in the National Assembly on Thursday, President Cyril Ramaphosa said faster implementation of economic reforms was needed to support investment and employment.
These reforms include the finalisation of electricity determinations, unbundling Eskom and taking steps to open up energy markets, the modernisation of ports and rail infrastructure, and the licensing of high-demand spectrum.
