I have been privileged to have competed against some of South Africa’s shooting legends over the years. I will never forget the pearls of wisdom from the late multidiscipline National Champion and Protea shooter Arthur Vaclav Jonak, or Arthur as he was known to his friends and fellow competitors: “Chris, you cannot engage a target that you cannot see clearly.” Arthur was never one to mince his words when he gave a fellow shooter advice with regard to firearm-accessory selection or shooting tips.

Arthur’s guidance still reverberates through my head when looking for a suitable optical sighting solution for any rifle platform. I am a firm believer that optical sighting systems should be fit-for-purpose. That conventional wisdom does not allow end-users to tap the full potential of their weapons platforms. Like many local and international sports competitors, I find myself gravitating towards long-range precision target engagements. Truth be told, traditional hunting optical sighting systems were never designed for this new application.
