COMMUNITY FORCED TO SHARE WITH COAL MINE

The slow-turning wheels of justice have left residents of a township in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga, with no choice but to live with mining operations on their doorsteps.

In February, the Emalahleni Local Municipality approached the courts in an attempt to stop New Venture Exploration from digging up a soccer field and a dumping site in Wells township. However, the Middleburg High Court has ruled that the matter could not be placed on the roll because it was not urgent.
