Court judgment may boost liquidations

A judgment of the Labour Appeal Court this week, which requires a business rescue plan to be put in place as a prerequisite for laying employees off, could lead to an increase in liquidations, said business rescue practitioners.
This would be detrimental to workers because all employment contracts are suspended as soon as a company is placed in provisional liquidation.
