Premier sends SOS to SIU

Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane (pictured) has asked President Cyril Ramaphosa to send in the Special Investigating Unit to probe allegations of Covid-19-related corruption in the province. Since the start of the national lockdown in March, the province has limped from one scandal to another, involving questionable transactions and deals in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

The most recent scandal involves the department of health, which allegedly spent R10 million on scooters which are meant to transport patients in rural areas of the province.
