Thaba Chweu cough up for Eskom

Residents of Mpumalanga’s Thaba Chweu Local Municipality are feeling the pinch of a R410 million substation constructed by a Chinese company after the council decided to increase the electricity tariff.

But the residents are also angry because the council introduced a fixed monthly service fee of R184 on all electricity purchases. It increased the electricity tariff by 10%, reportedly to recoup some money to repay China Sinogy Electric Engineering Company (CSEEC)
