On July 29 1921, the SA Communist Party (SACP) was launched in Cape Town. It was the first communist party in Africa and was among the earliest members of Communist International, which was based in Moscow, Russia.
Over the past 99 years, the party has made major contributions to South Africa’s struggle legacy. It was the SACP that first called for one person, one vote. It pioneered non-racialism, not just as an aspiration, but in practice in its membership and leadership
