SA TO FEEL FALLOUT AS CAPITAL INVESTMENT SLUMPS

Fixed capital investments in South Africa, which are critical for economic growth and job creation, could be between 11% and 20% less than last year, economists estimate. Johann Els, chief economist at the Old Mutual Invest Group, said a real contraction (adjusted for inflation) of 11% would be the deepest decline in the country’s history. In 2018, it contracted by 1.4% and by 0.9% in 2017.

According to Kamilla Kaplan, an economist at Investec, the decline could be as sharp as 20%. She said
