Our technical-editor-in-chief, Rob Weaver, gets new products in as soon as they’re available and coordinates all the testing through our vastly experienced band of reviewers, who have decades of riding and testing experience.
Vaude AM Moab Mid STX boots £180
are a rarity – a pair of waterproof cycling boots for flat pedals – and they’ve made riding through a muddy winter much comfier. A treated leather outer and breathable, waterproof SympaTex membrane keep the wet out. However, because the ankle isn’t sealed, water can still get in over the top, so on really wet rides you’re best off wearing waterproof trousers with them. Despite their chunky looks, they feel light to wear, and hold your foot snugly without digging in or restricting ankle movement, on and off the bike. The close lacing pattern means they take a while to put on though. A tall, padded ankle cuff gives you extra protection, as do the reinforced toe and heel caps.
