PANGBOURNE, CHILTERNS

The bustling village of Pangbourne lies just north of the M4 near Reading. Nestled beside the river Thames, it boasts a selection of lovely cafes and independent shops, and has a railway station if you don’t want to drive. It also has a great bike shop, Pankhurst Cycles, should you have forgotten, broken or just need something. The staff have a passion for classic bikes, so it’s worth a visit just for a quick browse of what’s on show.

I meet Russell in the centre of the village and we get ready to ride. This part of the Chilterns doesn’t offer much in the way of the elevated trails with far-reaching views that you’d find just a few miles to the west. Instead, it’s all about flowing woodland singletrack through quiet beech trees.
