Of all garden designs, container planting surely has to be the most creative for gardeners with a sense of their own style. There are limitless combinations of plants that can be arranged together in complementary pots, whether it’s seasonal displays, permanent planting schemes or fruit, vegetables and herbs.

While container gardening is a great fit for small spaces, it also works well in larger gardens where specific areas, such as shady corners or large patios, can benefit form focal points of colour, shape and structure.

For maximum effect, display your containers in ascending tiers. Position the tallest plants at the back and set them on planks of wood supported by bricks, this will ensure the contents of each pot can be clearly seen. The great thing about container gardening is that pots are portable and can be moved or changed at any time.
