Keeping count of stitches

Q How can I cross off stitches in patterns when working? I use a pencil to ‘shade’ stitches when working on black and white patterns, which works fine, but how can I cross off the stitches when the pattern is in colour? The pencil obviously won’t work. Not being able to differentiate between worked and unworked stitches on coloured patterns is very difficult.

We find a lot of our readers like to photocopy the patterns, either in black and white or full colour, which they can then either highlight or use a darker coloured pen to mark off their completed stitches, without ruining the original pattern. You
