SPEED THROUGH THE DECADES
In 1951 the Vespa Siluro hit 106.3mph, and not long after the Innocenti streamliner reached a top speed of 125mph. Ever since that time many attempts have been made to make scooters go even faster . This has taken on all manner of tuning methods and different bodywork styling to get the achieved result. Nowhere has this been more prevalent than in the UK, with manufacturers, riders, tuners and racers constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible when it comes to the traditional Lambretta and Vespa scooter. Like any record and achievement, they are there to be beaten, with constant development and improvement in technology all playing a major role in this being able to happen. What it also shows is the faster the speeds then the harder it becomes to break them. One other thing worth noting is that when it comes to terminal top speeds, aerodynamicshas picked out some of the top speeds achieved over the past 55 years which set important milestones along the way.
