THE ART OF TELLING STORIES WITH SIAN ZENG

Born in Wenzhou, China and raised in Budapest, Hungary before moving to the UK for university, Sian Zeng was exposed to a variety of cultures from a young age. Receiving an art education in three countries greatly influenced her style: “It’s often why people say, after seeing my work, they don’t quite know where to place me.”

A prevailing theme of Sian’s work is storytelling. One of her earliest memories of narrative art was in primary school when her teacher showed her how to draw a princess. “I loved it not just for its beauty and detailing, but because there was a story attached,” she explains. From that moment onwards, Sian drew hundreds of princesses, each with a different background story, “so I could imagine all their different lives”.
