It usually opens with a birthday: Smetana’s. But there’s a prelude to this year’s Má Vlast. Prague has a 75th birthday of its own to celebrate and receives an all-Mahler present from the Berlin Philharmonic under Kirill Petrenko. It signals the off for 53 concerts that fill the Czech capital with everything from Vox Luminis’s Bach to Ensemble Modern’s Gérard Grisey via the splendidly named American vocal group A Roomful of Teeth. With the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, St Petersburg Philharmonic and artist-in-residence András Schiff, little wonder Prague has a perky spring in its step.
