Crazy’s Angels

Sturdy stitches

Q I’m stitching motifs onto handkerchiefs for my grandparents and wondered how best to protect the stitches. Should I use interfacing, Angels?

Beth Chown, via Facebook

What a lovely gift idea, Beth! Interfacing is great for protecting the back of your finished stitching, but exposed interfacing doesn’t look particularly neat so it’s mostly used between two pieces of fabric rather than as a backing itself. Interfacing, once ironed on, acts as a glue that helps keep your stitches secure. In this case, we think the best way to protect your finished stitching would be to use medium-weight iron-on interfacing on the back of your for £2.79.
