Q Is there any way to stop metallic threads fraying and tangling? I love adding a bit of sparkle to my cards and I find this happens quite a lot.

Mary Jones, Sheffield

A Metallic threads are notorious for needing a little more care when handling than your regular stranded cottons. Make sure you use the correct size tapestry needle and use a good quality brand if you can. It can also help to use shorter lengths of metallics – about the length of your forearm will do – to avoid tangles. Another thing that can help you work with metallics is. It costs £9.20 and comes in a lidded tub that lasts for ages. Simply pass the length of thread through it and you’ll find it much easier to stitch!
