TRAILBLAZING FEMALE NASA MATHEMATICIAN DIES, AGED 101

Tributes have poured in for Katherine Johnson, a former NASA mathematician who died on 24 February. Born in West Virginia in 1916, the mathematics prodigy () helped break down barriers for African-Americans and women after graduating from an integrated university. She began working for NASA’s predecessor, the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics,, about African-American women who helped put US astronauts into space.
