I don’t recall missing a single Chelsea Flower Show in the past 30 years, so I was as saddened as everyone else when it was, understandably, cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic. Like most people, I first attended as a visitor, but in 2001 I joined the team presenting television coverage for the BBC, something that has given me a unique insight into the world-famous show. And, in 2012 I bit the bullet, designed a Main Avenue show garden myself and was very proud when I won a gold medal. It’s fair to say my relationship with Chelsea is a special one.
