OLD FURNITURE FACTORY

are one of the hallmarks of this Sydney home, which is situated in a repurposed 1920s furniture factory. Grasping the building’s heritage with both hands, the Hare + Klein Our client loves to cook and entertain, so the brief for the kitchen was very detailed. The galley style suited the brief, as well as the kitchen’s proximity to both the dining room and casual eating area. We were required to re-use some existing appliances and the client requested that the benchtops be practical as well as hardy. A butler’s pantry was tucked out of sight and hosts an extra dishwasher, fridge and sink. We took our cues from the industrial origin of the building. There were some constraints in developing the design, however we kept faith with the original concept, introducing some warmth into the finishes and installing a new firebox. The kitchen is the heart and soul of the home. It’s where the family tend to gather and it fits aesthetically with the overall ambience of this repurposed building. We chose fittings and furniture that would offer a nod to the building’s history, but we were careful not to sacrifice comfort in the process. The Nemo ‘Crown Major’ pendant light by Jehs + Laub in Matt Black from Cult that hangs over the dining table. The client loves the kitchen and the adjoining dining areas. It has proved its adaptability during lockdown, with family members working from home. It has been well used!
