As a regular, glamorous fixture at royal weddings and society events, you might expect Lady Frederick Windsor to be something of a social butterfly.

But her own 40th birthday earlier this month was rather more low key than the usual family celebrations – much to her relief.

“I’m rather bad at parties. I don’t find them very relaxing,” says the actress, known professionally as Sophie Winkleman, in this exclusive interview. “In fact I haven’t had a party since I was 21. So the fact that the virus prevented me from doing a big bash this year was secretly a huge relief.”

Not that she and her husband, Lord Frederick, didn’t celebrate in style.
