Tubes Ain’t Dead

AMID ALL THE FOCUS ON tubeless tyres in the new bike market it is easy to lose sight of the fact that most road bikes and all the “legacy” bikes out there still use a tube to hold the air inside the tyres. As some sort of proof of this I refer you to my recent article about attending the latest Michelin tyre release in France. Yes, the company released four new tyres; only one of which was tubeless. And the earlier story (Sept/Oct 2019) about my new race bike with Campagnolo Bora wheels – many Campagnolo wheels are tubeless ready but not these Boras.

My inspiration for this review of tubes was coming across the Tubolito tubes on the internet. Being manufactured in Austria out of polyurethane results in the lightest (claimed weight of only 24 grams) and most expensive (€37) tube I have ever encountered
