Back in the day, this was a very aspirational purchase, and they still turn heads 30 years after they rolled off the production line.

Nearly all Auto-Trail coachbuilts were named after native American Indian nations, or in recognition of important members of those nations, such as the Chieftain.

Different lengths subdivide the models. The most common underpinnings were the short-wheelbase, single rear wheel chassis-cabs. The most innovative and popular short-wheelbase variant was the Cherokee, identified by their design signature of a sliding ‘drop’ window on either side of the door.
