HAD a cracking bottle of rosé the other day, a marvellous stop-you-in-your-tracks-goodness-this-is-tasty rosé rather than the usual come-on-guys-let’s-neck-it-there’s-plenty-more-in-the-fridge rosé. It might have one of those infuriating glass stoppers upon which I always break my fingernails (and upon which the misguided Mrs Ray always breaks a corkscrew, bless her), but the wine inside – 2019 Elégance du Clos Cantenac from Bordeaux – is a copper-bottomed belter. A glorious pale-onion-skin/salmon pink, it’s 100% Merlot (old vine) and exhilaratingly fresh, clean, lively and slightly citrusy and creamy with wild strawberries
