But Devolver’s twin stick shooter is good enough to deserve more praise than I have time to bestow. It’s fast, intuitive, and gorgeous, with crisp pixelated book-scattering animations that make me want to get banned from even more libraries. It’s the sort of game where the first hour feels like it’s teasing you to leave all those other games behind and spend the next 400 hours thwonking NPCs with your crossbow. And we got all the way through this without a ‘pet the dog’ joke.
