hite-tailed deer tiptoe in wary silence through the early morning hush in this picturesque portion of Pennsylvania’s Brandywine River—a series of dramatic canvases he considered to be his best work. His commission would cover the purchase of 18 undulating acres near the village of Chadds Ford. “This is the little corner of the world wherein I shall work out my destiny,” professed the prolific artist, and he set about doing just that.
