Advanced Lesson

Welcome back to my column on the slap bass technique. Over the last few issues, we’ve been looking at some of the more advanced techniques: Fretting-hand slaps, machine triplets, and playing double stops. We’re going to carry on in a similar vein in this issue and look at ways in which we can incorporate chord strumming into our slap technique.

Strumming chords isn’t necessarily a slap bass technique, but it’s one that integrates with it extremely well. Many bass players have incorporated strumming into their slap bass toolkit over the years:
