Rick Cain, you have a lot to answer for. But first, we want thank you for planting the seed that became the wave pool dream. Wait, Rick Cain? Yeah, remember the kid that learnt to surf in a wave pool, in Arizona, and went on to knock off some big names at Pipe on his first ever winter on the North Shore. It was his first time surfing in the ocean after transitioning from the inland tank.

Not only did he have to learn all the intricacies of the moving ocean, understand bathymetry, and figure out what boards to ride, he also had to navigate the heavy locals and the conundrum of falling in love with a local wahine. But we digress. Yes, it was just a movie called North Shore. Before we stray too far from the plot here, we have actually started to ponder what might sprout from that nurtured seed, now that wave pools have turned from an average movie to a vibrant reality.

Thankfully, our 2020 reality is a far cry from the tank Rick Cain got his start in, and also, far removed from the pool that Tommy Carroll won the first inland pro event in, back in 1985, in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
