Our favourite red-headed JRPG hero Adol Christin ventures to the prison city of Balduq. The series is a standout among action-oriented JRPGs, and despite the self-contained setting, movement’s used more than ever. The combat takes cues from Ys VIII, but adds new monstrum abilities that emphasise positioning, like a wall run and a long-range grapple. Ys IX, thanks to the series’ textbook experimentation, is shaping up to deliver a fresh blend of JRPG with open worlds filled with action-packed combat encounters.
