OUR OWN SLICE OF PARADISE

Having been born and raised ‘down South’, I have not had the chance to get involved with the world of grouse shooting on the moors in the north of England and Scotland. Shooting Gazette has other photographers and writers considerably closer to the action, so my season kicks off on 1 September with partridge. What with loading, writing and snapping away, the chance to get away to the other end of the country has never presented itself.

Until last year. On 12 August 2019, I found myself in deepest Northumbria recording the first of two back-to-back days of grouse shooting. It was completely eye opening. I ‘get’ completely why this is looked on by many as the ultimate game shooting experience, quite unlike any sort of lowland shooting.
