This shot has bags of character, and that’s what immediately leaps out of the frame. The expression on the tree frog’s face as it dangles from the twig is impossible not to anthropomorphise. It’s as if it’s saying, ‘Put down that camera and help me out here!’

It’s much more than merely amusing, however – the technical skill demonstrated is excellent too, with spot-on framing, superb sharpness, and lovely out-of-focus colours in the background. The frog’s colours and texture are shown off beautifully. Timed to perfection, this image was a clear winner among all the judges.
