Move It!
Along time ago (2006), after many years of operating my then layout, The Wullinga Branch, thoughts about some beneficial changes began to take shape. The layout was regularly used by our running group, so the plan was to build the new station area over that year’s Christmas break in our operating schedule.
The section of layout that could easily be removed and worked on as part of the first stage of the rebuild was selected and plans of suitable track arrangements were drawn. The baseboard was designed so that it could be lifted straight into the selected area after it was completed. There have been numerous articles and even books written on baseboard theory and construction. The method described below has worked for me and was later used in my new layout.
The baseboard, 525mm wide, was made of 6mm MDF, framed with 19mm x 70mm timber, of a suitable type that was straight in the horizontal and vertical planes. A backscene board of 6mm MDF, 400mm high, was glued to the timber frame and the baseboard was glued and nailed down on the frame. A piece of 12mm square timber was glued along the top front edge of the baseboard. More details about this will be explained later.
White painted Caneite was then glued onto the baseboard, between the 12mm square timber and the backboard. The Caneite was weighed down until the glue dried. A 3mm MDF fascia board was then glued and nailed to the front of the module. After
