Tom Hanks is in a cheerful mood at home in LA where he lives with wife Rita Wilson. He’s wearing a dark shirt and dark green neck scarf, his head encased in an unwieldy set of headphones – which he says give him better reception for our video chat than more up-to-date equipment. The bookshelf behind him is bulging with well-thumbed volumes. “I chose to sit here to look smart,” he jokes.
