Some of the oldest surviving buildings in Britain are made from oak. High streets throughout the country are peppered with black and white timbered properties, many dating back to the medieval period, when using oak was at its peak. Crafted into furniture, the wood will withstand the wear and tear of daily life, and even heirloom pieces can look barely worn. When used in buildings it has a similar longevity, aging beautifully but not degrading in the face of the wind, rain, sun and snow.
