CREATING A MULTISAMPLE INSTRUMENT AT HOME
We’re all spending more time behind closed doors of late. Many are using this continued period of lockdown to expand their knowledge of music theory, learn new production techniques, and master difficult piano parts. If you’ve been tentative about exploring new territory or perhaps don’t have a horde of inspiring gear with which to get going, the following step-by-step tutorial, geared towards anybody whose house is home to more than a few out-of-the-ordinary curios (or even just some kitchen utensils), should help you get started.
Our Weekend Workshop series is designed to encourage you to learn a range of new approaches to creating interesting music. Here, we’ll guide you through the steps involved in building a multi-layered instrument using household objects that you’ve probably never before thought of as having musical potential. We’ll cover recording, editing, esoteric sound design and the process of building a sampler using the elements you’ve created. You should end up with a huge-sounding instrument you can use in your productions that is borne of you, your surroundings, and your unique detritus.
In the Multisample Instrument folder on the accompanying DVD, you’ll find a range of audio files that we’ll be referring to throughout the text.
