NI TURBO TRIPLE THREAT

Life is most certainly full of surprises — take this year, for example. Plans? Cancel ’em! Global pandemic! Or, “Oh no, no oil pressure!” Some surprises are of the good kind, though, and when we heard from Terry Tung-Yep a couple of years ago on our annual World Time Attack Challenge (WTAC) trip, we just had to meet him. If Terry had but one N1 GT-R we would have been right over, but three — the complete trifecta? The only way we could pop over for a visit faster would be by arriving in a GT-R wearing the same badge — it’s safe to say we shifted heaven and earth to make this visit happen, deep inside New South Wales’ Blue Mountains.

So, who is this Skyline hoarder? Where did he come from? Why does a man in his 70s have the coolest Skyline GT-R collection we’ve seen in Australasia? A couple of years ago now, in 1970, a much younger Terry bought his very first car, a Datsun 1600, off the Capitol Motors showroom floor — a car purchased because Terry’s father didn’t allow him to purchase the “chick magnet” MGB at the time.

This connection with the Datsun and Nissan brands would be one Terry would carry throughout his life, to this day. The Datsun 1600 was modified in due course, with a “punchy Weber 45DCOE carbie,” Terry tells
