Romney’s Rambler

A1964 Rambler Classic 550 2-door sedan once owned by George W. Romney will soon be on the auction block, according to the car’s current owner. Romney led American Motors Corp. from 1954 to 1962 — becoming president and chairman of AMC shortly after the merger between Nash and Hudson that created the company.

By the time Romney bought this particular car, though, he had left AMC to successfully run for governor in Michigan.

The 1964 Classic is not anything like one would expect to be driven by a man of Romney’s wealth and influence. Not even a top-of-the-line Rambler, the car is basic and plain. It
