Find Current for the Hot Bite

IF IT’S SUMMERTIME, at least three things are predictable about how Bill Lowen will spend his time on the water. First, he’ll have three rods on the deck, rigged with a finesse jig, a squarebill crankbait and a compact 1/4-ounce spinnerbait. Second, he’ll stay in current all day. And third, he will catch fish in the moving water.

The Bassmaster Elite Series pro is known among his peers as a jig specialist, but what many don’t realize is that he’s also an experienced current fisherman. Throughout the warm-weather months, he nearly always bases his daily fishing plan around moving water. He grew up fishing river current, and as a tournament pro, a number of his best finishes have come where he’s found flowing water.
