Summer bulbs

In my garden last summer I enjoyed towering liliums in flower. The scent was intoxicating, particularly in the evening. The flowering stems were so spectacular I entered one in our local summer flower show. My husband had a fit when he saw I’d picked a lilium but calmed down when it won first prize.

As it was only just coming into flower, I bought it home after the weekend event. It lasted a month as a cut flower standing upright in a very tall, heavy vase on the sideboard. I had to check with visitors that they weren’t upset by floral scents before they came into the house.
