The 300 and 7mm Blaser Magnums - designed by Christer Larson, head ballistician at Norma, in conjunction with the gun manufacturer Blaser
The brief was to design the most inherently accurate 7mm and 30cal magnum cartridges while keeping pressures moderate and barrel life as long as possible.
Drawing on experience with the design of the 6mmBR Norma and 6XC, Norma opted to specify .280REM style rifling, a tight throat and shallow angle leading into the rifling. Length of the neck is 1.1 times the calibre. This is just one of the physical changes that is obvious when comparing the Blaser Magnum calibers to the preexisting offerings in the same class such as 7mm Rem Mag and 300Win Mag.
The parent case chosen was a .404 Jeffery, modernised with a thicker, stronger case head and web to handle modern chamber pressures with ease.
